When did the trip take place? From the 5th – 14th of January 2009
What was the purpose of the trip? This trip was the first for Kono Business. In fact, our project didn’t even have a name at this point. But, we travelled to Sierra Leone to find out how we could develop a business concept that would benefit a group of women in the Kono province. We took our point of departure in a group of women who had undertaken tailor training but were unable to find employment, and simultaneously we initiated our collaboration with the local organization AVA. Other than having a lot of meetings, we got the women to sow approx. 30 bags in order to test their skill level and speed. This visit was the kick-off for Kono Business & Development.
During the winter and spring of 2009, we built a team to run the project.
The Development team wrote the first application to Danida and received approx. 60.000 kr. towards a new project visit.
The Business team wrote a business plan and reached the final of the entrepreneurial contest Venture Cup.
